The Department of Commerce with Computer Applications was started in the academic year 2000 - 2001 and upgraded to Post Graduate programme in the academic year 2010 - 2011 with the objective of conceptual foundation in areas of Commerce with Computer Applications based educational activities. It is a self-financing course affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University.
The Department has both Under Graduate and Post Graduate programmes in its manifold and admits a maximum of 136 students in the Under Graduate level by having 3 sections catering to the demands of the public. In the Post Graduate level, the Department has a maximum of 37 students were admitted every year.
Since the inception of UG and PG classes, the Department is progressing well under the fully qualified faculties and has regularly produced excellent results in every semester.
A Twinning Program with complete facilitated Computer Lab with latest version of software along with accounting expertise learning is the highlight of this course offered by our Institution. The course involves design and skill development of programmes with training using MS-Office, C, C++, SQL, Tally, VB, HTML, Java, web Technology, Adobe and Android studio.
The Department offers a wide variety of Short-Term Certificate Courses in GST and Practical Auditing which are being conducted after class hours. In addition to academic course the Department conducts Value-Added Courses such as Service Marketing, Auditing, Personality development, Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises and Interview Skills. The Department encourages the students to complete self-learning Online Certificate Courses in MOOC’s, Swayam, NPTEL, IIT Spoken tutorial, Learnathon and Cyber Security.
According to academic programme of curriculum the Department of final year both UG and PG students published their project in journal in the year 2023. In International Journal of Analytical and Experimental Model UGC care approved, 96 papers were published by the students with the guidance of staff members.
Besides the educational programmes, the Department has been organizing Guest lectures, Seminars, Hands on Training and Workshops by inviting the senior professors and senior officials of the government departments relating to the field of Commerce with Computer Applications.
Signature event of the Department is Trade Fair “Mannar Biz ” it was started in the year 2022 onwards. It is a milestone for the students to become an entrepreneur. Students raised nearly one lakh rupees and contributed to the management.
The Department association “COMMCAPPS” organizing the various programmes like Career Counselling, Skill Development, Hands on training, Entrepreneurship Development, Soft Skill Development, Placement Training and Personality Development.
The Department arrange Industrial Visits to the students periodically so that they equip themselves to be a part of the society and make measurable contributions. The Department students participated in various Sports and Inter-Collegiate meet won prizes in events such as Silambam, Karate, Boxing, Kabaddi, Table Tennis, Paper Presentation, Workshop, Conference and Cultural Events etc.,
The Department of Commerce with Computer Applications have received Best Department Award and Cash Prize Rs.5000 /- on September 5th 2023 from the Management. This is the first award announcement given by the college for celebrating the Teacher’s Day, our Department received first Best Department Award and Best Teacher’s Award in the history of the college.
The PG Department of Commerce with Computer Applications from the academic year more than 1500 students were graduated, most of them are first generation graduators. The students having an opportunity of getting placed in various departments like PSU, Banks, Railways, Income Tax, BPO, MNC, IT and ITES Industries and they can also prepare for CA, ICMA, ACS, IBPS, TNPSC examinations. The Department strives hard to bring success and development of the student community.
