Profile
The Department of Physics was established in the year 1979-1980 with a laboratory to teach Physics as an ancillary subject for B.Sc., Mathematics students. Under Graduate Program in B.Sc Physics began in the year 1988-1989 and the Physics laboratory has been continuously upgraded year by year to cater to the needs of changing syllabus. Now the Laboratory is equipped with advanced apparatuses. When a Vocational course on Mass Communication and Videography was introduced in the year 2002 as per Madurai Kamaraj University Syllabus, a Videography Laboratory was established as an additional facility, well furnished with finest equipments. Science students are trained for making Audio-Video production of their own as an ADD-ON course. The department also provides two Certificate courses namely CCA and C & Graphics. All the classrooms are enabled with ICT facilities. Our department also facilitates the student community by issuing books from the Department Library.
Post Graduate programme in Physics was established during the year 2018-2019 under Self Financing Scheme.
Our department has been upgraded as research center during the year 2022.Three full time and one part-time scholars are pursuing their research efficiently.
Our staff member have received fund from UBA, TNSCST to proceed their research areas. Apart from this the College Management is encouraging and alloting Institutional Seed Money to the faculties for doing research works in innovative areas.
Two Faculties from our department acted as co-ordinators for conducting National Science Day Program with a funding of Rs. 2 lakhs by TNSCST , Chennai.
The Alumni Association of the Department of Physics is very active and an enthusiastic body. Our old students are working as high cadre officials in various departments in State Government, Central Government, Banking Sectors, IT Fields etc. Every year,the alumni members of the department meet the current students and help them financially and also guide them in curricular, extracurricular activities and career opportunities. They are part of the Board of Studies meetings held in the institution and their suggestions are taken into account. The department is very proud of the achievements and contributions of our Alumni.
The Department of physics organizes variety of programs under the banner of Raman Association.
