Best Practices
Our Food and Dairy Technology students are skilled with Hands-on Training in various Food Processing and Production units. So far, twenty-five students have completed In-plant Training in Bakery and confectionary at Vaigai Foods &Jayarm Bakery, Madurai.
At present, students are involved in bakery operations within the campus under the programme of
“Earning while learning”.
Out of twenty-five students, five students are selected every week and employed to work in the bakery unit on a cycle. Products like
Vegetable Puffs, Egg Puffs, Fruit bun, Jam bun, Coconut cake and Cookies
are prepared in the unit.
These products are supplied to our college canteen for the benefit of our students and staff.
Nutrition counseling is offered to students, staff and public by the Nutrition Counseling Center of our department. During the period of pandemic it was offered in online through our Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College website. Presently this program is continued in offline mode on need based. The counselor of this program is a qualified Nutritionist from our department of Food Science and Nutrition. This is a very useful program and provides health conscious to all human being.
Under village adoption program our department has adopted a village Uchapatti, Thirumangalam Union, Madurai District. We are providing an AnemiaAwareness Campaign to the village women working on the MahatmaGandhi National Rural Employment Scheme (100 Days job assured Scheme), Government of India.
Under section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013 (18 of 2013) and rule 18 of the Companies (Incorporation) Rule, 2014 we have registered a new company on the name of MTNC AGRO FOOD CHAMBERS with our Food Science students to provide more practical knowledge on Company formation, Food production and Marketing, etc.
The Department of Food Science and Nutrition is offering technical training to the socially and economically backward people. The Department has received project from
Tamilnadu State Council for Science and Technology
for Millet Ice-cream production valid Rs.10 Lakh in the year 2023-24.
